Wes Anderson’s eager awaited Moonrise Kingdom comes to our screens on May 25. The film will be screened tomorrow in Cannes, in a disappointing turn of events Film Jam were not invited to attend this year. However, there is solace for those of us not privileged enough to be there. Anderson has created four featurettes for Moonrise Kingdom, and Film Jam are bringing them to you in the comfort of your own homes.
Moonrise Kingdom takes place in the 1960’s on a fictional island, New Penzance. This island is inhabited by some typically Anderson-esque characters. The cast includes Bill Murray, Bruce Willis, Edward Norton, Frances McDormand, Tilda Swinton and Harvey Keitel. The film follows the reactions of the island’s inhabitants when two young lovers run away together.
The featurettes are narrated by cast member Bob Balaban who sounds much like a child recounting to you how they spent their summer. Balaban helpfully guides us through what is and is not part of the film. Anderson has created each featurette in a typically bemused manner. They leave you yearning for more of his unique comedy. Luckily, more is only ten days away.
