New Hitchcock Trailer- Make up and murder a plenty

By Kerrie Costello

The new trailer for Hitchcock has just hit the internet!

The film is directed by Sacha Gervasi, adapted from the book Alfred Hitchcock and the Making of Psycho by Stephen Rebello.  In 2008 Gervasi directed Anvil! The Story of Anvil, the award winning documentary, but this will be Gervasi’s narrative feature debut. It will star Academy Award winners Anthony Hopkins and Helen Mirren.

Alfred Hitchcock is one of the most well known film makers- with a name and filmography (and facial side profile ) that is instantly recognisable. Hitchcock is renowned as the master of suspense and a powerful storyteller. Despite appearances in the media and cameo roles in his own films the man himself has always been something of an enigma. Hitchcock, due for release in February 2013, follows the director as he goes through the process of creating what became arguably his most famous film- Psycho – which was released in 1960.

The film will focus on Hitchcock, his marriage and the difficulty he endured in the production process of the film. This will include the trouble Hitchcock faced with including a naked shower scene. As such, the breasts of Scarlet Johansson –who plays Janet Leigh – are a much discussed subject. Count how many times they mention them in the trailer-we get it, Scarlet Johnanson will be (somewhat) topless.

It will also follow his marriage to Alma Reville, played by Helen Mirren, and the impact that the production of Psycho had on this relationship. Anthony Hopkins is virtually unrecognisable in his role of the titular character- with his face made up to fit that well known profile- the image popularised from the opening segment of Alfred Hitchcock Presents– almost perfectly.

With music by Danny Elfman and other stars including Jessica Biel and Toni Colette, and two leading Oscar winners, it’s a decidedly intriguing look at the infamous film maker.
